27 Wagons Full of Cotton

In 2019, in the midst of the #metoo movement, Emma staged Tennessee Williams’ one act play of at Mississippi State University.

The play opens with the mill on fire. Afterwards, an increasingly disturbing series of events unfurls on Jake and Flora’s Mississippi porch when Silva, the owner of the mill, shows up seeking revenge. With an intimate, in-the-round set, Emma’s direction of Tennessee Williams’ one act explores the play’s gender dynamics, putting the past and the present in conversation with one another, and reminding us just how little has really changed.
